First of all, this is brilliant just brilliant. I was a bit apprehensive about the fact that all tracks need to be reviewed first of all but on the other hand after testing it i have found it is a win win situation for bands. Even if they don't get in, highly unlikely if what they are submitting are good, they get a decent listen to from music fans. I downloaded a Bananarama track and the ads at the beginning sounded just like a radio ident. How they will attach ads to each track will be interesting. I tell you if they were used by entertainment companies, labels, artists etc as well as good interesting radio style adverts i think this will be a goer. I do think that with each download they should attach a flyer for the advertisers just in case people are stripping the ads from the stream. Brilliant !
This is linked to my post on FREE music and independent artists. Now there is a centralised service offering DRM free mp3 downloads for free. It is called We7, not sure how to pronounce it but it has severe dollars behind it. We7 is backed by Peter Gabriel a music heavyweight and the man behind OD2 one of the first digital distributors in the early 00s. We7 allows music fans to vote on whether a track is 'worthy' of distribution via the site which is not necessarily a bad thing because at least you are guaranteed a certain number of listens. Then once given the seal of approval you are able to give away DRM Free mp3s which will have a little ad message at the beginning of the track.
I think it is very important for lovers of music to back this for a number of reasons. One anything that takes you out of the murky world of p2p with dodgy virii and questionable legalities is a good thing. How it will work as far as advertisers are concerned remains to be seen. But so far it sounds very good. I will review and let you know from a user's point of view.

I don't know about you but i am pretty sick and tired of how myspace is being used by almost every artist, club, promoter and street teams. I am totally sick of the amount of junk i get from bands and especially nightclubs inviting me to their shows or attempting to take over my comments page.
Don't get me wrong myspace has its place. But use it as a networking tool to get to know your fans or get to know PEOPLE ! Not to spam us with your stupid event or meaningless record release. Aaaargh !
I am saying this as an artist myself. If you want to make an announcement use the bulletin or your website or your myspace page but don't spam us with it. At the very least, try to be creative. Don't send me a message with 'check out....'. Finally I think myspace music should only be used by bona-fide band members and to make friends with people. At least Lily Allen uses it correctly. Or was that Lily Allen's team of professional myspace spammers ? hmmm.
